Note: If for some reason I don't get to play an instructor I won't argue, just let me know to convert Aloysius to a student.
Name: Aloysius Vincent Lancaster
Position: Instructor (Ability Focus and Control)
Age: 35
Gender: Male
Power: Gravity Manipulation.
Aloysius wields a powerful ability. He is able to warp and twist the laws of gravity itself to his own ends. This allows him to distort gravitational fields around him which he can use to force gravity to exert up to twenty times it's natural force (By our own planet's standards, unknown in other environments) Or create areas that have a zero-gravity environment.
He has displayed the ability to make objects levitate by reversing the gravitational polarity and launching them by shifting the polarity in other ways. By creating the zero gravity fields, most objects within range are viable weapons to him. This makes him capable of flight if he wishes, or he can also use the increased gravitational force to trap and hold people or objects and keep them where he wants them to be along with a host of other odd obscure abilities, though most of those are not outlets of his powers that he has tried to learn.
His powers do have limits and repercussions. He is not able to directly influence something outside of a fifty foot radius of himself. He can generate enough force to send an object hurtling quite a distance, but loses control of it once outside of his power's influential range.
By being able to use his powers to help him fly and so forth, this means that any negative effects he uses can affect him if he doesn't take care to focus his powers correctly.
His powers also create a degenerative affect within his DNA as he uses them. It is not at a drastic rate, but with fairly constant use, he could be bedridden at the age of fifty due to his powers. The damaged caused from his powers doesn't seem lethal, but they clearly weaken him and even now he feels shakier than most would if pressed to use a high amount of his power. He can recover from this by not exerting his powers in any way, but it takes double the amount of time to recover what he spends.
Physical Description:
Aloysius stands at six feet even. His shoulder length hair is a premature white due to his power's effects on his body, and it is usually well combed and tied back. His eyes area a bright green, and full of depth, as if they constantly drink in the details of everything he sees. He had a constant small smile on his face, as if he always is a few steps ahead of someone, and his nose is slightly narrow, but fairly average.
He has high cheekbones and a sturdy jaw with a slightly pointed chin, giving his face a rugged, but sharp appearance. Though his expression is often warm and gives him a fairly handsome appearance. His body is evenly built, though recently he has lost muscle mass, though not muscle tone, giving him a thin, but not unhealthy appearance.
Aloysius often wears comfortable suits, usually in dark blues, blacks, and greys. Most of his suit coats have long, wide coat-tails. He wears small thin-framed glasses and a battered watch on his left wrist. He also wears jeans and tank-tops from time to time, preferring such clothing during the summer seasons and when he isn't working. Unless it is warm while he's out, he often wears a long white trench coat. Aloysius flows when he walks almost like a moving liquid as he seems to make no sharp movements. He is not rigidly strait backed when he walks, but he stands tall and moves with a purpose
Personality:
Aloysius tends to be very calm, yet he is constantly in a state of activity. It is his non-hurried and generally detached sense of peace that allows him to seem as though he were the eye in the calm of the storm. He is polite, though rarely ever formal to people. He has a broad sense of humor and a sharp wit.
Aloysius happens to be slightly above average in academic intelligence, and incredibly clever and resourceful in real world situations. Constantly observant and incredibly curious, he has a hard time not getting involved in something, though he doesn't often let the intensity of his curiosity show.
However, Aloysius happens to be something of a perfectionist. He doesn't really have control issues, but he finds it hard to operate well if a screws something up, at least until he comes to terms with it, which can take a while at times. Aloysius also very leery about any relationship with a woman that requires any form of commitment. When a person of the opposite gender gets a little too close for his comfort, he has a tenancy to simply avoid them as much as possible.
History:
Born in Stockton California, Aloysius was named for his grandfather who had moved to the United States from Italy. At birth he displayed no hint as to the power which he held within him. As an infant things often whizzed through the air around him, usually when he was happy for some reason or another. It was the fact that the objects that flew about where within arms reach from him, that caused his parents to believe they simply didn't notice their child throwing the objects about.
During these times he quickly wore down and went to sleep. After a few days of this he was taken to a pediatrician who couldn't find anything wrong with young Aloysius and instructed his parent's to simply keep a very close eye on him and report any health problems they spotted.
As he grew up. Aloysius proved to be a fairly active and curious boy. He did well in school, passing in each class. Having high enough marks, teachers asked to look through his notes to see if they had a prodigy or a cheater on their hands. It was found that he had binders full of word problems, written out for all the work he did. It was shown that Aloysius did well enough with the basics in each subject, but required most of them to be word problems in the forms of practical application to actually solve most problems in any type of advanced capacity.
Thus Aloysius progressed normally through school, and as he got older and the lessons more specific, he showed higher marks in literature and science, while receiving average marks in most other subjects. He graduated and started finding entry level jobs to save money before he decided what he wanted to do at college.
His powers had affected parts of his life as he grew up, by the events were so minor and lacked any real influence around his surroundings, mostly bleeding out instead of being properly wielded. They didn't truly make themselves apparent until he reached the age of twenty. He and a group of friends had gone out camping during the last week of summer. He was set to start college with a major in auto mechanics.
He had gone off on a hike and had been crossing a small gorge by way of a fallen tree. Not realizing it was rotten on one end, it didn't break until he was three quarters of the way across. With a hundred feet until the ground, Aloysius was due for an unpleasant fall. He didn't notice it until after the moment had passed, but as he fell and had nothing to grab onto, it kicked in, like crossing the fine line between slightly controlled stumbling and first walking. His fall slowed and the falling pieces of the tree went off to either side of him. he hit the ground, a rough landing, but not fatal.
After sitting in a slightly stunned confusion, he finally got up and started his way back to camp. As he walked, he couldn't help but try and figure things out as he came out of the shocked stupor. He recalled the little things that happened around him Things slowing as they fell toward him, letting him get out of the way. Having heavy objects getting slightly easier to pick up if he started to strain. He still didn't have a full grasp on what he was able to do, but as things started to make a little more sense, he calmed down a little more and started thinking even harder.
He never told his friends what had happened. He kept his gift a secret, and as he studied in college, he often found himself attempting to figure out exactly what it was he was capable of. Through experimentation, he found that if he jumped and focused on slowing his fall, it was actually possible. He tried slowing other objects falling rates by focusing on them, starting with the need to hold his palm out to it and then later by sheer focus. He found himself quickly wearing down, but after nearly a year he started gaining a true understanding of what it was he was capable of doing.
Aloysius graduated college in auto mechanics at the age of twenty-three. He had several flings here and there, gained and lost several friends, and upon graduating, he married his most constant on again off again girlfriend through his college years. After working in a few auto shops he opened his own. He wasn't wildly successful, but he made enough to lead a comfortable life.
After seven years his wife Angela decided to file for divorce. She felt they had married far too young and while she didn't hate Aloysius, she didn't feel the love and passion that had been there before, and she wanted to end it before bitterness crept in. At Aloysius' request they spent a year trying to find a way to keep things together, but they had drifted too far apart. Agreeing with Angela, Aloysius agreed to the divorce, they had no children and they could split on relatively good terms.
Aloysius wasn't exactly shattered, but it was a serious blow to him, and he spent much of his free time reverting to the study of his powers that he had suppressed during his marriage. He discovered depths that he hadn't noticed before and he noticed some of the ill effects after he started gaining dizzy spells and his hair began getting lighter. After a lot of experimentation he discovered the downside to his gift and resolved to be more sparing with his abilities. Over the course of three years he compared results which he had written down as to how he felt after different uses of his powers. he found that he could partially recover from use of his powers, though he had still decided to be very careful.
It wasn't long after his research on his own abilities that he was contacted by the Dark Forest Academy. He had been careful about concealing his powers, but with the aid of the headmaster's friend who could locate people like him, they didn't find it to be a difficult task to track him down. Offered a position as an instructor after the level of control he displayed, Aloysius gladly took the job and now looks forward to teaching at the Academy after leaving the auto shop to be run by a few of his employees.
Sample Post:
Aloysius looked around his new office now that it had been furnished and tailored to his liking. He had a basic name plaque on the door. It simply had his name on it with the subject he taught at the school in a small print under it. He never had an office before and it had been interesting to set it up. In some ways in looked like a general instructor's office, though it's main feature was the fact that while bookshelves lined his walls, they were full of novels and little knock-knacks. Oddly enough there was no real hint as to his past career in his office, for the most part he seemed to have a random collection of things.
He had still not even taught his first lesson at the academy, though that would change very quickly. He couldn't help but feel a slight bit of nervousness creep in. His job was one that was vital. The gifts people had needed to be harnessed. Even in there was no intention to use them, a person's powers had to be controlled if they were to try and hide them and live a normal life. That was his job, help give the students the chance to keep their powers in check and lead average lives, or have the control to safely continue their studies here at the Academy.
Even after all these years of experimenting with these abilities, it's not easy to believe things like this can be done. This academy will certainly mark a milestone in the history of the world, at least if it ever becomes widely known. He thought with a small smile as he located what he was looking for. He checked the clock and noticed the first students would be arriving soon. He intended to greet them as soon as possible. Even though he would likely work with every student who passed through the academy at some point or another, there was something about the first students he would be teaching that made him feel like they shouldn't first meet in a classroom, but rather upon the student's arrival.
Closing the door behind him and walking to the where the students would arrive, his constant small smile widened a little, Aloysius was starting a new chapter in his life and it was to help others like him be able to progress and lead their lives as they wished, hopefully to become the next group that would work at the academy. Aloysius felt that since there establishment had been set up, and someone was seeking these people out to help them, those with their own abilities would be coming in droves to learn what it was that they were capable of, and to figure out what they wished to do with their gifts.
